I am considering getting rid of warehouses and simply adding a column to the City Market report. This will be called “CL Stockpile” and only a City Leader will be able to use it. Actions will be modified to move commodities in/out of this area.
New rulebook posted. This is the last one prior to game start other than “Corrections”. We will be posting the rulebook in new “formats”, but the rules should be the same between the versions.
On a more personal note –
We are in the process of moving. I hope to be in Dallas by the first of June. However, we may still be stuck in a motel somewhere. So I may be slow in responding to email / forum messages.
Once I finish with the changes to Cycle and the Conversions, I will push all turns back. At that point, you will be able to input actions via the web site.
1. Market Items – Several commodities are changing
LI -> Padded Armor; Short Swords
MI -> Leather Armor, Shield, Short Swords
HI -> Chain Mail, Shield, Short Swords
LM -> Padded Armor; Short Bow
MM -> Padded Armor; Long Bow
HM -> Leather Armor; Light Crossbow
Livestock -> Cattle
Lt Siege – removed
Md Siege – removed
Horses -> Horses, Riding
Wagons -> Wagons, light
— too many new items to list
Metals -> Several types of ore, but Iron is still the primary ingredient for construction projects.
Warehouse Items will be converted into their corresponding types; somewhat problematical for weapons – i.e. if you have 500 LI in the only warehouse you own, then where does the other 500 short swords wind up?
Unit items will be converted as above.
I would really like to have a Mercenary organization in the game. In this case, they would be hired by the various Kingdoms, usually. While organizations could still hire them, they would not control Cities. So the traditional Senior turn would be considerably different for them.
Thanks for the input. One the problems with any play-by-mail game is the cost of postage and the time it takes to input turns. These were the reasons I dropped my PBM company back in the early ’90s. I am also assuming these turns would be hand-written?
Let me get the game running and we will come back to this. I might be able to solve the action entry by using AI/voice recognition and read the turn in. The back-end will create the reports in a variety of formats, so generating them is not an issue.
If no one has any objection, I will convert the current armaments / stockpile / markets from -> to:
LI -> Padded Armor, Short sword
MI -> Leather Armor, Shield, Short sword
HI -> Chain Armor, Shield, Short sword CA, SH, SS
LM -> Padded Armor, Short Bow
MM -> Padded Armor, Long Bow
HM -> Leather Armor, Crossbow
Horses -> Horses, Riding
Wagons -> Wagons, Light
Factional buildings for Factions that no longer exist – get reduced to component parts
Metals -> Metals
Lumber -> Lumber
Stone -> Stone
MF Goods -> MF Goods (not really the same, but several guild buildings can produce them.
Livestock -> Cattle
Looks like option “A” has it. I will start on the rule book changes and move on to the data schema, and migration.
Some people took exception to my comments concerning the fact that I did not receive royalties from the UK licenses. I want to state that most of my dealings with the folks in the UK were honest and above board. I did not receive some early payments when we first got into the whole licensing thing and that was what I was remembering. My apologies again if this offended you.
You are correct. While it would be highly unlikely that the Kingdom of Cymru would allow one of these factions to run a city in Kalmar and even more unlikely that they would tolerate a city being built in Kalmar that they did not approve, they would not bar trade.
Yes, there are new items in the game that only exist in certain parts of the world. The data was from the old Delta Games load and then I made the changes to the markets based on the old CVRs (thanks Steve). However, none of the new stuff in Knightguild is on the markets.
Found a bug in the rule book. The City’s “In Stock” is the City Stockpile, the city does not use Warehouses in this version. The “On Market” is the field that is used to calculate, etc. The Base Amount / Base Price are not shown on any report and are used to adjust the markets. I am currently looking over the code to handle this and adjust all markets prior to game start.
I do not plan on limiting factions from spreading in the game. In Kalmar, it would be difficult for any of the Families (Boda, Roder, and Getham) to gain a foothold, but not impossible. Religions / Groups can spread where they will. Imperials would not be welcome and it would be considered an act of war with the Cymru; so I doubt the Imperial Senate would support such a move.
I would tend to agree with Zan that the Boda, Roder and Getham would be better served by trying to bring back their Kingdom in the North that was defeated by the Imperials. Of course, they would have to find the royal heir to the throne and start working to oust the Imperials to re-establish the Kingdom of Midgard.
Happy Easter to all!
