Some of you have received multiple City / Clan turns over the last few days and I am sorry that happened. I have been testing the automatic turn generation / email functions and did not check the loaded Midgard data for issues.

Web Site – where the forums are hosted and also where you have the ability to input:
      1. Sign-ups – for new players who want to join the game.
      2. Create new positions – Once a player has joined, they need to create
      3. Input Actions
      4. Input Special Actions
      5. Input In-Game messages
      6. Download various files – such as the Rule book.
      ———–
Things left to do: Most screens have been created and tested all the way through to the back end. Midgard specific things (Special Actions and In-Game Messages) still need to be added.

Plumbing – This is the code that detects when something has been posted on the web site and picks it up, processes it and hands it off to the D365 back-end.
      1. On Sign-up, creates the Player Account in the game system – Completed, currently disabled since it requires money to be posted to the account via PayPal.
      2. On Create New Position, creates the starting Clan position and sets the “Input” date. – Completed.
      3. On Input Actions, adds positions actions to the back end and sets the “Input” date. – Completed.
      4. On Special Actions, adds the Special Actions to the queue and does the error checking to ensure the position has a set of actions for this cycle and has not issued more SA than allowed.
      5. On Messages, posts the message so that it can be added to the turn sheet this cycle.
      —————
Things left to do: Add Midgard specific things (Special Actions and In-Game Messages) to the plumbing to ensure they get to the back-end.

D365 – This is the main backend and include all of the data manipulation screens.
      1. All Midgard Entities created.
      2. Midgard Data – without Clans, added to the system.
      ————–
Things left to do: Test the GM console, Data entry to bring the various City / Clan positions to a starting point. Old City CVR data entry is underway. Clan turns for the test players was generated by the plumbing; they still need some changes but this system is mostly complete.

Process – This is the program that handles the front-page orders. I am currently writing code in this area since it is the biggest problem area reconciling Midgard to Knightguild. This runs automatically when the “Input” date is set, but the “Process” date is blank. It builds the output you see on the Action Summary page(s).

Execute – This is the last step prior to sending out the turns. It reconciles turns that have conflicts and handles combat. It also runs on a schedule and can hold a turn if there is a chance of combat occurring.

Report Render – This is the report generator. It runs on an hourly schedule and looks for turns that have been released for printing (Input, and Processed dates have been set and the Printed date is blank). – Completed

I provided all of the above information to show you what has been done and where I am still working.
      Next Steps:
      1. Finish City Beta turns and release to print
      2. Put out an updated version of the Rule Book to Downloads
      3. Publish the City Rule Book to the Downloads
      4. Update the Clan Beta turns and release to print
      a. Run them through the Process stage (no actions)
      b. Check to ensure the turn is being updated properly
      5. Have Beta Test Players submit first set of Actions through the Web Site!

I now have the latest version of the rulebook out; I don’t have everything in it I want, but it is closer to the way I envision things. We will launch with this version, but feel free to cuss / discuss it and let me know of any major screw ups on my part. When I put Seniors in play, I will expect them to help me refine the factional goals.
Currently, I am working on the CYCLE / PROCESS code so I can run a turn. I have completed the new City Report and the auto-report generator / emailer. My sons are completing up the input of the run of CVRs to the existing Cities. This weekend I intend to put the final touches on the Cities, add the ones that are missing and move some around. I hope to send out the semi-completed City turns by Sunday.
At that point, I will be gearing up to test the Action and Special Action forms on the Website.
Also, my sons are taking on the task of helping me with the maps. While my system has definitions for maps south of the ones Zan ran, I don’t have any map printouts of them; I go down to 21, the system goes to 28. There is also some data corruption with the older files. I am certain they are up to the task!

I noticed that the Combat section had been removed entirely. Will it be put back in with alterations to the KnightsGuild system, or do the old weapon types still count?

The only other thing I would mention is about skills. In the various Factional Office/Temple descriptions they are abbreviated, and some aren’t included in the Basic Skills list. Some can be figured out quite easily, others not so much, but we don’t know what they actually do. Is it possible to list the skills full name in the Factional descriptions to avoid confusion, and maybe have a Factional skill list that describes what they do?

      Thanks for the update

That’s a excellent idea, since it rumbled the planet, with earthquakes, Tsunami’s after the asteroid struck moving things around or changing maps around is a great idea. Gives move value to your creation in this game rather repeating the old.

Love the map, the iconography looks great. Hope your sons have having fun creating those maps and put there own stamp on it! Is that different/new icons I can see?!?!

Thank you, the map icons I bought and they are very nice. Being in a PDF, you can enlarge them quite easily and see the detail. I am trying to get a simpler, less busy, set of map icons. We are still kicking it around.

Thanks for that information also. I get worried when I read some other postings, I do want to give some input into the Dark One Faction even more but I honestly don’t think that is a priority, getting the game functional is. It might be that I do continue in that religion and it might be that I do not.

No offence to Penn but I am not sure he realized how some posting come across like he has significant input into inside knowledge of this, you version of the game with “mic drop” comments of having off board private conversations with yourself.

Is there some sort of private private beta test discussions, its ok if there is but bring those discussion on a open board please? It would be great you get the maximum amount of free time to get the game up and running :o)

Releasing information like this is disconcerting by saying it is what Jon has told him. Topics like
      > How do Penn know’s about plots within plots within plots to the game?
      > How he know’s about the regiments being different?
      > How he know’s about what in the Knightsguild framework that will introduce?
      > How he know’s about “OTHER” Kingdoms

Not saying what is being said is not true… just the release of information in some of the recent format of mocking other’s saying “you don’t understand but I understand xyz because I have been told by the GM” is a worry. I hope you understand. Thankyou and keep up the good work GM’s!

No Offense to Daniel, but I was a Beta Tester for KnightGuild game system that Midgard is built on. Next I “talk with Jon”, and I also read what has been posted here on the forums and in the Midgard Rulebook (version 2 is up for download now). These simple comments answer all of your questions.

Let me explain it a different way.

Midgard is a game that is using the Knightguilds game system. Now that new game system has a lot more functionality and capability than the old Midgard game system code. Much of that is not being used currently, it has been disabled.

Next why do I know this, because I was a Beta Tester for Knightguild. I have the rulebook for Knightguild as well too. I have read it and studied it, plus proof read it as well too. There are two others on this forum that also have the KnightGuild rulebook as well too.

Now as a Beta Tester for KnightGuild game and system, I had many phone conversation with Jon to understand how it was different than the old Midgard game. There are a lot of differences between the two game systems. I had to understand how things worked in the past for the old Midgard system ( I knew a lot about that from Zan) and I had to understand how things are different under the new KnightGuild game system now that Midgard is using. I those conversations with Jon, I learned what he didn’t like about the past game, what he wanted to see done, and how things are different in the new game system. I also learned about other things that Jon didn’t like and we talked about many things.

In our conversations, it was I that ask Jon to stand up the Midgard game using KnightGuild. I was the one that asked him to stand up this forum for the game and to reach out to the old gamers to join the Beta Test.

Now I still help Jon out with testing things, as in the real world I am a IT Troubleshooter. …Thus a Architect, DBA, Project Manager, and Dev OPS setup manager, so the KnightGuild software code/system/game is basically a Software development project and that is what I do and manage. So I can be extremely helpful, plus I know more about Midgard than others do, and now know a lot about knightGuild too.

I am only seeking to help as there are differences. I am trying to help people through some things that are going to be different. Don’t take offense if I know something that the rest of you don’t know, I am speaking up to help everyone to be informed and not be blind sided.

      My two cents worth –

      Concerning Penn –
      > How does Penn know about plots within plots within plots to the game?
      — Until the game starts; this is mostly speculation and perhaps some pre-game manipulation. I believe it is based on his knowledge of political situation of the past game under Zan. We are in a beta test to beat down the errors in the code. We are not playing the game yet.

      > How does he know about the regiments being different?
      — Simple, he asked me and I told him. Factions will not have regiments. Kingdoms will have Armies. If you drop me an email and ask, I will be happy to answer your questions as well.

      > How does he know about what will be introduced in the Knightguild framework?
      — I had asked Penn early this year (after Davin told me about the Midgard PBM forum and I met him) if he had some time to help me with a new game I was building called Knightguild. He proofed the rulebook and assisted with turn design. He was instrumental in getting me to relaunch Midgard system on the Knightguild platform.

      > How does he know about “OTHER” Kingdoms?
      — Even Midgard had other Kingdoms – The Imperial Homeland, The Barbarian Homeland, and the Manchurian Continent. It did not have a game structure for them, but they were trying. Knightguild had Kingdoms and Guilds built in. I think I even mentioned in an earlier post about multiple Kingdoms in the Midgard / Knightguild version. The rulebook clearly states that I only implemented two of them.

Thankyou both Jon and Penn. That puts my mind more at ease. I get it now and I think anyone else reading these boards staying silent should also now get it.

-toungue in cheek- Penn appreciate your efforts trying your hand at “brainwashing” readers by your speculation and perhaps some pre-game manipulation now I know that is what it I’ll adjust my reading habits.

If you drop me an email and ask, I will be happy to answer your questions as well.

Will do and I will try and co-ordinate with collective questions so that way you don’t have a larger then needed workload :o)
