I thought it would be useful to post the skills list in TribeNet for some inspiration. There are quite a large number of skills, and this is one of the strong aspects of this game. In addition, if you obtain level 10 in any skill, you can then do further research with that skill into special areas. You can pitch the GM on new ideas, and if he accepts, they get added to the nearly 200-page Research doc by skill type. For instance, Mining currently has seven research topics you can pursue once you reach Mining 10, or you can pitch the GM on a new mining research topic and work towards that. Anything you pitch that is accepted gets added to the research document and any player can research it.
Skills work on a simple % system, where level 1 training is 90% likely to succeed on any given turn up to level 10 at a 10% chance.
Many of the listed skills seem to be very in game useful, and worth perusing. I have not the creative instinct to see what use some, like gutting or herding foe example, would provide a leader or city.
